Curious: Political operative hired by Honolulu City Council chair as housing coordinator

by Larry Geller

The Honolulu City Council has hired a familiar face in local politics as its new housing coordinator.

Peter Boylan starts his new job next month and will report to Honolulu Council Chairman, Ernie Martin.

[Hawaii News Now, City Council hires new housing coordinator, 7/30/2015]

Boylan is a political operative who has worked (as the article notes) for Big Island Mayor Billy Kenoi, Colleen Hanabusa, and Senator Dan Inouye.

What housing or homelessness experience he may have has not yet been revealed.

Why the City Council needs its own housing coordinator would also be a reasonable question, since it is a body that is supposed to set policy, not execute policy.

But he would surely be a great guy to have on staff should Ernie Martin, as many expect, challenges Kirk Caldwell in a run for mayor next election.
