Frequencies available in Hawaii for new community FM radio stations—want one?

by Larry Geller

AntennaWanna get the word out in your community? How about starting a radio station for your group or organization? Would you like to broadcast in a language other than English?

Don’t be shy. Now’s the time to make plans, gather the forces, and prepare to begin broadcasting.

Low-power FM licenses will soon be available, but don’t delay, the best FM frequencies may be snapped up soon. There are frequencies available on each island for low-power community FM stations, which should be approved by the FCC after the application period opens in October.

For background, check out the video below from Democracy Now, or visit their website for their June 20, 2013 coverage.

These days it’s sometimes possible to raise money on-line via one of the “kick start” web sites. So you can dream about having a station and then take action to make it happen.

I dream of starting a low power FM station that continuously plays Muskrat Love by The Captain & Tenille, 24/7/365. We all have dreams, Larry. Don't mock mine.
