Al Jazeera: video on human slavery in Hawaii—the story that disappeared but won’t go away

After just a few days the trial of the Aloun Farms owners Mike and Alec Sou ended—because a federal prosecutor had incorrectly instructed the grand jury that brought the indictments. The failure was fatal to the prosecution, and devastating to the Thai workers who hoped that the trial would bring a chance for justice and restitution.
Judge Susan Oki Mollway dismissed the case with prejudice—which means that the Sou brothers could not be tried again on the same charges.
End of story? It looked that way. But today Al Jazeera has brought the question of human trafficking in Hawaii into world-wide focus with the release of the first of a new series on 21st century slavery.
