Panoramic pic of Chinatown statue, Chinatown stonehenge

by Larry Geller

Quite possibly APEC delegates or their entourages arriving in Honolulu in November might take some time to visit the statue of Sun Yat Sen in Chinatown. Interest will be boosted by a planned July 4 celebration in Taiwan.

Well, what they will see is not only the statue, but former Mayor Mufi’s ugly stonehenge posts. When I wrote about this earlier, I should have included this picture.

Please click the pic for a panoramic shot. On the far right is the statue of Sun Yat Sen. Turn your head to the left and there is a bunch of posts with ugly rusting brackets on top, and tables at which no one sits. Not too visible in the picture, at the right side of the bridge (which is dumping bits of its railing into the stream, by the way), is another set of ugly posts.

Shouldn’t the city do something about Hawaii’s image? Just sayin’, you know.

Click for much larger picture.
