Senate to reconvene at noon, civil unions may come up this afternoon

by Larry Geller

Senate president Colleen Hanabusa announced a few minutes ago that the House needs to pass the budget bill before the Senate can go ahead with further fiscal bills. So she plans to reconvene the floor session at noon to give the House a chance to act.

It seems possible that there are the necessary number of votes to pull HB444 to the Senate floor. It’s hard to tell. You can watch the proceedings from home on Olelo channel 49 or via their streaming video at olelo.org.

The peanut gallery looked packed. I hope all stays calm should the bill be recalled, regardless of whether it passes or not. We’ll see if there is brotherly love from the church folks (if they’ll pardon the expression) and civility from civil libertarians. Stay tuned.
