Wisconsin advocates begin recall of Republican state senators

by Larry Geller

An email originating from the Wisconsin Democratic Party that has been posted around the Web explains what is happening:

This morning citizens from around the state took the first steps by filing recall papers against key Republican Senators who have stood with Scott Walker and pushed his partisan power grab that will strip thousands of middle class teachers, nurses, librarians and other workers of their right to collective bargaining. And we learned just last night that their disastrous budget that will cut millions from our schools and universities. . . .

Make no mistake, these Republican Senators are vulnerable to recall for their radical partisan overreach. Senator Randy Hopper won his last election by just 184 votes. And Alberta Darling won her last race by only 1,007. By recalling just three of the eight Senators [Democrats] are targeting, [Democrats] can regain control of the Senate.

The number of signatures required in each recall petition will be upwards of 15,000, depending on the numbers of votes cast for the particular senator—the number must be 25% of the votes cast in the last election. If the signatures can be collected, then new elections would be scheduled. Depending on the outcome of those elections, Democrats could regain control of the Senate.

My understanding is that the governor cannot be recalled until he has been in office for one year.

All levels of government are taking advanatage (stealing from) the taxypayer, the producer. Government does not actually "produce" anything.

Everyone knows "you just got to get that cushy State job then you are all set". What a sad state of affairs things have come to, with 70% of the country ready to suck off whatever gov teat is available, and thinking that is right, or deserved.

Wisconsin has been losing its industrial base and replacing it with "borrowing money" to overpay and over benefit. The rheoteric and emotion is disgusting....the facts are fairly simple, Wisconsin is broke, as is almost every other State except Wyoming and North Dakota (guessing from memory). The dems jacked thing up so in Wisco and elsewhere they were ousted, now the other reality of living with a balanced budget is just like Greece....protest, don't take away that Gov teat we got so used to!!!!!!

Gov is way way too big, it need to be 5% of the population, not 15 or 18% or whatever it is. It is absurd.

This recall is tooooo good.
We can pay attention and use it here.
Even for county councils which on Kauai have been so questionable regarding the re-election of losers. I have always been suspicious of the vote count process here.
Donʻt like em, pull em. Should become SOP.

I wonder how the process works in the different Hawaii counties?
