Four Japanese streaming TV channels to watch for current news, four Japanese newspaper sites and translations

by Larry Geller

If you understand Japanese, you may want to try watching Japanese streaming TV for up-to-the-minute information on the earthquake/tsunami and nuclear reactor situations. Here are four streaming TV channels you can watch. Pass the info on to neighbors who may be concerned. Not all of these work all the time.

If anyone knows of any other reliable streams, please let me know and I’ll add them.

Below the video are four Japanese newspaper sites and Google translate links. Some papers have English editions as well, but usually news breaks on the main website.

Asahi Shimbuntranslated

Mainichi Shimbuntranslated

Nihon Keizai Shimbuntranslated

Here’s NHK’s streaming English broadcast. I don’t know how current it is compared to the Japanese.

This Wikipedia page seems to be periodically updated with the situation at Fukushima I, this one for Fukushima II. Both provide background.

Requiring those Captcha codes at least temporarily, in the hopes that it quells the flood of comment spam I've been receiving.
