Media Council campaigns for FCC action on TV station consolidation complaint
by Larry Geller
A year has gone by without FCC action on the complaint filed by Media Council Hawaii on the consolidation of Honolulu television stations KGMB, KHNL and KFVE. Freepress.net and the Media Council have posted a campaign and video on the Freepress website to help urge to FCC to take action. You can add your name to the FCC letter at that link.
Separately, I was one of three who visited the stations to look for information in their public file. We couldn’t get it. So I filed a complaint of my own, since in the past the FCC has taken violations of its rules on access to public files very seriously, usually levying fines. The FCC has taken no action on my three complaints, either.
Please visit the link above if you are concerned about the loss of news coverage in Hawaii due to consolidations. The video is called “Different Channels, Same Election Coverage“ and is great illustration of the problem—change the channel, same news. What a waste.
Here is one of my earlier articles about the complaints, with links. Here is a link to Media Council Hawaii’s web page with more information.
Check it out and please join the campaign.
