Challenge to Hawaii media – report on all that went into the Senate decision just now rejecting nomination of Judge Leonard for Chief Justice

by Larry Geller

It was all there on `Olelo. Let’s see what you folks out in newspaper and TV land can do with it.

I was impressed with many of the floor speeches. After asking the mainstream media to do its job, it may not seem fair for me to summarize, but that’s all I have time for right now, I need to prep for a meeting.

There was the issue of judicial qualifications and the Bar Association “unqualified” recommendation. There was also the question of whether Leonard is able to serve as CEO of the judiciary, the third branch of government.

Senator Hee raised an interesting and difficult point about Native Hawaiian issues that I had not heard before, and I was glad he did so. His comments deserve to be more widely understood, and I’ll be looking for a transcript of his remarks to post here in the future.

Anyway, there are folks paid to report, so over to you, with thanks for keeping all of us informed.

Comments:

Well, the title for this post is the worst I’ve ever written, according to my copy editor, over breakfast this morning. She’s right. That’s what I get for posting something while rushing out to a meeting. I’ll leave it as an example for myself.
