Republicans, corporations win with defeat of DISCLOSE Act in Senate

by Larry Geller

Probably, the Democrats weren’t trying very hard either. They could only gather 57 of the needed 60 votes, and so the 2010 elections will be full of attack ads without even the small measure of restraint that DISCLOSE would have produced.

Republicans and corporations are the prime beneficiaries as they mount a full court press to unseat dems this election cycle.

Republicans won an earlier victory with the defeat of climate change legislation. Again, the question remains whether the Democrats could have tried harder, or whether they used the de-facto Republican stranglehold of Congress to let the bill be defeated.
