Flotilla success: Egypt to end Gaza siege in stages

by Larry Geller

US Vice-President Joe Biden and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak agreed at a meeting in Egypt yesterday that the siege of Gaza imposed by Israel and Egypt should be lifted in stages, according to senior Egyptian political sources.   [The Australian, Egypt agrees to end Gaza siege, 6/10/2010]

It would have been interesting to have been a fly on the wall during those talks. I suspect Egypt told Joe what they were going to do. Lifting the Gaza siege has not been something the US has put the screws on Israel to do. Egypt took unilateral action on this. Before, they had agreed to pound steel plates into the ground to block tunnels.

The flotilla movement has had its first success. Power to the boat people.
