Honoring our dead

by Larry Geller

As a country, we are very respectful of our dead. We and the world were shocked by the tragic losses of 9/11, and we grieve those who sacrifice their lives to defend our country in wartime.

Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida is honoring those we prefer to forget: the 44,000 or so Americans who die each year simply because they have no health insurance and our country won’t provide them with health care. Rep. Grayson has created a website to gather and present stories, and he is reading some of them on the floor of the House. This is the first of a series of his YouTube videos.

I didn’t watch more than the first minute or so of this video. You probably won’t want to play much of it either. This is not intended to be entertainment.

Check out what Rep. Grayson is doing, though, at his blog Names of the Dead.

And please get on the phone or email your congresspersons to push for sensible single-payer health care reform.

Where is the outrage?
