News conferences now news

by Larry Geller

Isn’t there a new movie playing? Any criminals arrested? No condos in foreclosure? Today’s Advertiser breaking news alerts us to a news conference.

Ok, it’s one way to get a scoop, since the competition will probably be doing what they are supposed to do, which is, wait until tomorrow, go to the news conference, and maybe write a story about it.

The Advertiser post, Media Council Hawaii to file FCC challenge to KGMB, KHNL, KFVE merger, gives the address where the news conference will take place. So you can be your own reporter. Eliminate the middleman, just go yourself. Why else would they tell you where it is??

It used to be that news conferences were for the press, not the public. In other words, they go, then they tell us about it.

As to the subject of tomorrow’s news conference, yes, the Media Council is taking legal action against the KHNL, KFVE, KGMB consolidation. I had a little part in this myself. But I’ll tell you about it tomorrow.
