(Heart) breaking news--US shipping monstrous loads of arms to Israel for use against Palestinian children

by Larry Geller

The death toll in Gaza is about 860, with 3,600 wounded. About one third are children. Israel's massacre of innocent Palestinian civilians is being supported by the US. If pictures of this would bother you, please close this window right now.

From Reuters, 1/9/2009 (hat tip to Viviane Lerner)

The U.S. is seeking to hire a merchant ship to deliver hundreds of tons of arms to Israel from Greece later this month, tender documents seen by Reuters show.

The U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command (MSC) said the ship was to carry 325 standard 20-foot containers of what is listed as "ammunition" on two separate journeys from the Greek port of Astakos to the Israeli port of Ashdod in mid-to-late January.
...
The tender for the vessel follows the hiring of a commercial ship to carry a much larger consignment of ordnance in December from the United States to Israel ahead of air strikes in the Gaza Strip.

A German shipping firm which won that tender confirmed the order when contacted by Reuters but declined to comment further.
...
The ship hired by the MSC in December was for a much larger cargo of arms, tender documents showed.

That stipulated a ship to be chartered for 42 days capable of carrying 989 standard 20-foot containers from Sunny Point, North Carolina to Ashdod.

The tender document said the vessel had to be capable of "carrying 5.8 million pounds (2.6 million kg) of net explosive weight," which specialist brokers said was a very large quantity.

See also Ralph Nader's letter to Bush (thanks to Patricia Blair).

Gideon Levy, the veteran Israeli columnist for Ha'aretz, called the Israeli attack a "brutal and violent operation" far beyond what was needed for protecting the people in its south. He added: "The diplomatic efforts were just in the beginning, and I believe we could have got to a new truce without this bloodshed…..to send dozens of jets to bomb a total helpless civilian society with hundreds of bombs-just today, they were burying five sisters. I mean, this is unheard of. This cannot go on like this. And this has nothing to do with self-defense or with retaliation even. It went out of proportion, exactly like two-and-a-half years ago in Lebanon."

The slide sequence is taken from Sabbah's Blog, where the Nader letter is posted. I don't know where they originated, and reproduce them here for educational purposes. You're not going to see these pictures in your daily paper.

If you're bothered by what you see, I hope you'll take some action to stop the slaughter.

Comments:

These pictures and stories are more terrorist propoganda. These same people were the ones dancing in the streets when the twin towers went down. They would just as soon have your head on you tube than eat dinner. Hamas and Hezbollah have no respect for their own lives or their childrens, what makes anyone think they would respect they would respect the right of others to live? Anyone that doesn't believe this to be true should take a flight straight to Gaza or Lebenon or any other terrorist country and start a protest rally on the street and see how long they live.
