Abercrombie, Hirono betray constituents and vote for bailout

by Larry Geller

Today's bill seems basically the same as the one our congresspeople correctly voted down earlier.

Hawaii's two congressional representatives on Monday voted against the $700 billion bailout bill.

U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie said his constituents did not want the plan. He said that he received nearly 1,500 e-mails, faxes and phone calls from Hawaii residents against the plan.

"They want us to invest in the nation not to invest their money into taking care of those who gambled with their funds this way," Abercrombie said. "We have to start fresh and start from the bottom up and take care of our people first and worry about the Wall Street gamblers last." [KITV, 9/29/08]

There's plenty of commentary on the Web. For the moment, I need to get back into a meeting, so I'll just seeth with anger and disappointment for awhile.
