Protestors win: Blackwater backs off on Potrero, CA training site

by Larry Geller

If you've been following the news on Blackwater, protestors in this California community have been fighting the plans of private military contractor Blackwater to establish a training camp in their backyard.

I just have to assume that most Disappeared News readers will be familiar with the controversies surrounding this private militia, which is unaccountable to anyone for its actions in Iraq and elsewhere overseas. If not, Google will reveal all, or check out information on the Democracy Now! website.

An email from the Hawaii AFSC alerted me to the news that Blackwater has backed out of its plan.

See this article, Blackwater pulls application for Potrero training center.

Of course, one can wonder if they're simply planning to open up a secret training center elsewhere. In other words, a covert rather than an overt operation. We'll never know. Watch out for strange groups of armed men gathering on Molokai, for example.

So congrats to the protestors in California and elsewhere for making a difference.
